Puntagorda in the north of the island: 25th October 2020

Alison planned a day out in the north of the island as Rosie her daughter had an appointment with an Iridologist in Puntagorda.  They invited me to join them as the town of Puntagorda to visit the Sunday market.  It took 1 hour to reach the town as the road winds up a steep ridge towards the northern hills.  We brought cheese, bread and fruits from the market for a picnic later in the day.

We also brought some delicious cakes which we had with coffee while we waited for Rosie to return from her consolation.

Nearby the market was a viewpoint which had great views down to the sea.

While at the view point Alison noticed a small bird laying on the ground which looked as if it had knocked it’s self out on the glass surrounding the viewpoint platform.  Rosie and Brandon went down to check if it was still alive and found another bird nearby.  Both of the birds were still breathing so Brandon and Rosie took them to a safe spot and gave them some water.

After 15 minutes the birds started to recover and became more alert.  They then flew off into a nearby tree.

When having our coffee we met a friend of Alison who suggested a place were we could have our picnic and go swimming.  We drove 30 minutes towards the coast to where there was a steep cliff with steps leading down to the sea at Puerto de Puntagorda

We followed the path down the cliff and were amazed to see many small cave dwellings carved into the cliff used by local fishermen and families living in the Puntagorda.

When we reached the bottom of the cliff there was a platform carved into the rocks, a small sea water pool and steps leading down into the sea.

The water was calm and very clear and so we were able to go snorkelling in the sea.  We saw an amazing array of colourful fish swimming between the rocks.

The water was deep so we could dive into the sea.

We watched rainbow crabs climbing on the rocks and found a sea slug in a nearby rock pool.

We spent the afternoon next to the sea and on our way back to Rivendell we stopped as a restaurant for a drink and something to eat while we watched the sunset.

It was dark by the time we arrived back at the Caldera and had a dark bumpy ride in the 4 x 4 jeep the along the river bed and up the hill to Rivendell.
