Exploring Munnar and the surrounding hills
I had a surprising good night’s sleep in the tent but it was cut short by the call to prayers at 5 am. I was unable to go back to sleep and so went up onto the roof terrace to watch the sunrise. The video below captures the singing that drifted through the valley from the temple. I was rewarded by a great sunrise and was relieved that there were only a few clouds in the sky. Kochi to Munnar
I left Kochi after having a Keralan breakfast of appams and chickpea curry. The guest house I was staying at was located above a spice merchant and I will miss the smell of freshly ground cardamom and cloves in the morning. I wish I could capture and share the lovely aroma wafting through the hostel. Once I had repacked my rucksack I took an auto-rickshaw to the Fort Kochi ferry terminal. It was a Saturday morning and the streets were quiet. I caught the ferry over to Ernakulam passing though the backwaters.
