    Chennai to Pondicherry

    This morning I rose early to start my bike adventure to the Southern tip of India. I packed up my bag, loaded the motorbike and put on my protective gear before saying goodbye to Bavrah and Ashlin. They have been wonderful hosts over the past week and helped me prepare for the adventure. I will miss them both but will see them again on my return back to Chennai at the end of the trip.     Exploring Chennai

    Bavrah took me to the colourfully decorated Kapaleeshwarar Temple in the Mylapore neighbourhood. We arrived in the early morning when the temple was busy with worshippers. The large temple complex is home to a herd of sacred cowes which had been brightly decorated with coloured horns and faces. A large tank (pool) is located just outside the temple where traditionally worshippers would come to bath before entering the temple. The pool is no longer used for this purpose and whilst we were there we watched workmen tying together barrels to create a floating stage for a festival which will be taking place the following week.     Varkala to Chennai

    This evening I left Varkala after 1 month and headed to Chennai in neighbouring Tamil Nadu where I will stay with friends. I caught the overnight sleeper train which left at 6 pm and was due to arrive in Chennai at 10 am. I booked the 2 class AC Sleeper carriage. The train was quiet as it pulled out of Varkala but was completely full by the time it pulled out of Kochi. The sleeper carriage was very comfortable and I had a good nights sleep on the train.
