    Krabi to Railay

This morning I woke up early to see briefly see Krabi in the daylight before catching a short boat ride to Railay. Krabi water front looked great in the early morning sunshine but the rest of town is very commercial and mainly used by tourists as a stopping point for the beaches and Andaman islands. Only the locals were up and about at 6.30 am. The Thai’s are early risers and are up and about before 6 am presumably to get things out of the way before the midday heat. It was fun watching the Thai ladies doing their morning dance/exercise routine on the waterfront. Railay is a small area…

    Prachaup Khiri Khan Day 2

I woke up at 6 am to climb up to Wat Thammikaram Worawiham temple which is famous for the monkeys that have taken up residence there. It was also great to see the beach in the morning light. I wanted to miss the worst of the midday heat but even with an early start I was dripping with sweat by the time I reached the top of the temple. It was amazing to see all the monkeys on the way up and the views from the top were stunning. I was amazed by how placid the monkeys were and that they just ignored me and walked around me when they…

    Bangkok Day 3

Today I took it easy and spent the morning by the pool. I went for lunch at a street stall popular with locals and was joined by a Chilean guy I met. We had sir fried crab with curry seasoning and prawns with asparagus. It was the best meal so far and the crab was amazing but not for the Chilean guy who realised later he was allergic to crab! Later in the afternoon I went to a temple on a hill called Wat Saket. The temple was very simple but the views from the top provided a great panorama of Bangkok. It impressive to see the number of new…

    Bangkok Day 2

This morning I explored parts of the new town where all the main shopping plazas are located. I need to buy a few additional items for my travels which I was unable to take on the plane.  I decided to catch a Bangkok cannel boat from the old town to the new town where I was able to transfer to the very modern sky train system which link the various plazas.  It was surprisingly simple to get around and very cheap (each journey was less than £1).  The Thai’s must like to shop as I have never seen so many shopping plazas which have all the major American and European…
