Bristol to La Gomera – Sat 17th October

I stayed overnight in the OYO Winford Manor near Bristol Airport as I had an early flight to Tenerife in the morning.  Yesterday afternoon I caught a Megabus from Exeter to Bristol Airport and then a took a taxi to Winford Manor.  I had to wake at 4 am to take a taxi back to the airport which was only a 10 min ride away.  When I arrived at 4.30 am the Ryanair check-in desk had just opened and it only took 10 minutes to complete the bag drop and walk through the security as the airport was quiet.

The flight was due to depart on time at 6.20 am. Boarding was very smooth as the flight was only a third full.

Departing for Tenerife at 6 am

I had a snooze on the plane and so the 4 hour flight went by quickly.  As we approached Tenerife the plane flew by La Gomera which I walked around a three years ago.

I arrived in Tenerife South Airport 10 mins early at 10.20 am.  The airport was deserted with only this flight arriving in the morning so picking my up bags was very quick.  I had to wait an hour for the local bus transfer service to the north airport where the domestic flights to the other Canary Islands depart.

Outside Tenerife South Airport. It would normally be full of taxis and coaches taking tourists to the various holiday resorts

It was an hour bus ride to the northern airport which was much busier than the southern airport.  I checked in for my local flight to La Palma and passed through security again.

The La Palma flight left on time and was almost full.  It was a small twin prop plane and the flight was only 30 minutes.

I arrived in the small La Palma airport and pick up my bags before finding the car rental kiosk to collect the car I had booked through Ryan Air.  It was only £76 for two weeks rental which was great value.  I drove 10 minutes the main island town of Santa Cruz and checked into Pension La Cubana for three nights.  The pension was in the heart of the old town which was a lovely old building which has many of the original old features.

After freshening up I went to the local supermarket to buy some ham, cheese and bread as a snack.

In the evening I explored the old town before finding a small bar to eat.

The town was very quiet due to the lack of tourists. I returned to my room for an early night to catch up on my sleep after the early start this morning.
